Tinder is a reputable online company known to provide an efficient platform for hookups. They developed a mobile dating app to make the interaction between the users easier, fast, reliable and efficient. However, things turned sour when the company took its anger online through social media. An editor at Vanity Fair, Nancy Jo Sales expressed her opinion through an article claiming that dating sites like Tinder have caused a “dating apocalypse”. Nancy continued to claim that dating sites promote immoral acts like one-night stands where the culture embraces misogyny and discourages commitment. In what was termed as an unprofessional overreaction, Tinder took it to social media, sending more than 30 angry tweets directed to Nancy Sales. Tinder insisted that the platform provides and creates channels through which single people connect. Tinder went ahead to request support from their followers in North Korea and China claiming that people from the country have benefited from the platform.
However, the claim by Tinder that it has users in North Korea was not received positively by the Koreans. Martyn Williams, who runs a tech Blog in North Korea, and Newsweek claimed that they don’t think there are any users of Tinder in the country. Korea has issues with their network connectivity where a cellphone network is not available. Williams continued to say that only few government officials, scientists and visitors have free access to mobile networks. Tinder was however reluctant in giving any remarks following the encounter with the blogger. As a matter of fact, Tinder mobile app have helped thousands of people hookup and end up in marriage. Dating apps have drastically changed online dating perspective to most of us. Following the article by Nancy Sales and tweets from Tinder, some people claimed that Nancy did not criticize Tinder reputation. Some seconded Sale’s idea that dating sites including Mobile dating apps like Tinder promoted immorality in the society. This is however out of negligence and ignorance by the users.
