5. Get slime
Combine wood and slime to make torches. Set the torches in your shelter so you’ll have a way to see at night.
6. Build a Furnace
A furnace, like a torch, is essential to your home, you can use it to melt items, to make copper and iron and to craft stronger items. In order to make one, you’re going to need to get stones. But don’t worry–it’s easy in Terraria. Use your pickaxe and go outside of your shelter, you’ll be able to find stones all over the ground service. Gather up 20 blocks and take them to your workbench and you’ll be able to build your furnace.
7. Dig Up Iron!
Iron looks a lot like stone, so you’ll need to keep a keen eye out. It’s a little darker, slightly browner and sparkles in the sunlight. To find iron, you’ll have to dig underground (with your mining axe). Once you collect iron, you can melt it in your furnace and build an anvil in your house.
The anvil can then be used to make a new pickaxe and a broadsword.
8. Start Mining and Keep Mining!
After you get a handle on getting iron, keep using your mining axe to dig around for high quality ores–like copper and gold. These will be ideal for building new items later.
