PayPal is giving its mobile app a major overhaul, the first one of its kind since the company’s inception. The redesigning of the app is meant to make it easy for customers to transfer money, make purchases from online stores, buy food and most importantly control the settings of their accounts.
According to the company, the revamping of the app was a result of customer feedback and seeks to address the problems often raised by users. Unlike the earlier version, the new design emphasizes on making the sending and receiving functions highlighted in a manner that is easy to spot.
PayPal says that because it deals with sending and receiving of money, it is only fair that customers have an easier time locating the sending and receiving functions. The company adds that sending and receiving of money has grown by 100% in the last couple of years. Additionally, 1 in every 4 of its transaction is done through mobile devices.
The app takes the user experience to a whole new level, complete with colorful themes, a cleaner, fonts and an attractive, easy to understand layout. The blue section on the home screen allows users to check their balance and the transaction history.
The Activity Hub section enables customers to keep track of the money they’ve sent and received as well as the source of the money. The buttons to send and receive money are tucked at the bottom of the screen and are green. Other important buttons include the buttons that let the customers order food, use PayPal to buy goods from affiliated stores, and access loyalty cards for the respective stores.
PayPal is keen on making the app available to users across the globe. Through the iterative platform, the company can customize the app to fit the specific needs of customers depending on where they are located.
Jo Lambert, PayPal’s Vice President of Global Consumer Product and Engineering, says that the app will be localized to be in line with 25 markets and support a total of 27 languages.
Other features of the PayPal mobile app include fingerprint authentication for those using the Android platform, ability to separate pending and completed transactions in the activity sections, accessing the PayPal Credit balance from the homescreen as well as adding credit cards issued outside the United States.
During the launch, Lambert said, “We do see a place where PayPal will be a more meaningful player in a customer’s everyday financial life.”
The revamped PayPal app will be available on mobile devices running on Android and iOS platforms.
