Lookout Inc. recently released their redesigned Lookout Mobile Security app for Android. The app has been improved to withstand even more security threats, including protection against newer threats. Along with a new interface, Look Mobile Security for Android has incorporated new methods that enable you to find your lost phone even if your battery is dead.
Though no date was set, the makers of the app had made it clear that a similar redesign would cross over to the iPhone along with new features. Now, the Lookout Mobile Security App for iOS devices including the iPhone has been updated and optimized.
For those unfamiliar with the Lookout Mobile Security App, the features are:
Security and Privacy
Lookout promises the “most up to date, comprehensive protection at all times,” according to their website. The app protects your phone when you download new apps, shop online, browse social networks, or use your phone for banking and payments.
Backup
The app systematically backs up your data to the Lookout website for safe keeping. This protects you from losing your information (including your contacts) and enables you to access it in the event that you lose, destroy, or delete the data in your phone.
Missing Device
This feature enables you to find your missing phone. You can sound an alarm, or Scream, even if your phone is on silent to find it when lost in close proximity to you. You can lock your phone from the site to prevent people from having access to your information if found or stolen. An alternative to locking it, you can also wipe your phone clean if you feel that there is no hope of finding it.
The most important new feature of the Lookout Mobile Security app is the Signal Flare. In the past, if your phone died you couldn’t find it with this app. Now, there is hope as you have a chance to find your phone even if the battery is dead. The app senses every time your battery is low and sends a flare right before it dies notifying you of your phone’s last known location.
Management
It enables you to manage one or more devices from the web.
The app seems to be good overall for the iPhone (great for Android), though there is seems unnecessary as there is iCloud. I would recommend it because iCloud’s Find My Phone feature isn’t as sophisticated due to Lookout’s Signal Flare. Lookout Inc. has stated that 30% of iOS users can not recover their devices using the Find My Phone feature of iCloud.
Here’s a video explaining how Signal Flare works:
