Talk of innovation in the tech sector and few companies can match Google. Their search engine has been on top of the pile since it was launched and its mobile app sector is never short of groundbreaking apps. Gmail was among the company’s first services and continues to attract millions of users every day. Never mind that Google unveiled Inbox, a service that sought to deliver the same services like Gmail but users continue to stick to Gmail, primarily due to its ease of use and a host of features that the company keeps adding to the service.
Now, Google has decided to make the Gmail app even better. The company is updating the Gmail app with some innovative features that previously could only be accessed from the desktop. The most notable addition is rich formatting, a feature that enables users to bold, underline, color, highlight and type words in italic.
This may not be innovative news if you have only been using the desktop version of Gmail. However, for mobile users, the new feature is, without doubt, a big deal. Statistics indicate that nearly two-thirds of Gmail users access the service through their mobile devices, so they will certainly appreciate that they can format their e-mail the same way they would using a desktop. Users can find the formatting bar just below the compose space and slightly above the keyboard. The formatting bar appears like an extension of the keyboard.
If you have been getting calendar invitations through your Gmail or Microsoft Exchange, then you must be familiar with how frustrating it can be switching from the calendar and the email app so that you can keep up with the schedule. However, with the new updates on the Gmail mobile app, this could as well be a thing of the past.
The revamped Gmail app comes with instant RSVP, a feature that allows you to view all the relevant information on one screen thereby by enabling you to make responses based on what you can see. There’s an agenda interface located below the calendar invites. The agenda interface is meant to help users manage their schedule better by arranging the order of invites according to the proposed time.
The new updates to the Gmail app are aimed to enhance Google e-mail experience on mobile devices. While people with mobile devices running on Android can download the updates, user on the iOS platform may have to wait a little longer. However, it is hoped that Google will make the updates available on iOS soon.
