Path – What is Path?
Path is a mobile social network for iPhone and Android described as “the smart journal for sharing life with close friends and family.” Launched in November 2010, the Path app has grown to include over 2 million registered users. If you are tired of random people’s updates invading your newsfeed, then Path might be the right social network for you. Path is a much smaller, private and entirely mobile social network where you only share personal information with an intimate network. You choose to share with and follow users that you highly trust, because Path takes social sharing to a whole new level.
The overarching concepts of Path’s social network are mobility and privacy. But although Path boasts itself as the ultimate private social network opposing the mainstream qualities of behemoth networks like Facebook, the level of personal information that can be shared with Path challenges any notion of privacy. You can use Path to share photos, videos, who you are with, where you are, what music you are listening to, what you are thinking, when you wake up and when you go to sleep. The Path “smart journal” is so smart it even automatically shares your location when you change cities or neighborhoods. Path is basically a GPS tracking device and ultimate stalker tool.
Once you get over the creepy intelligence of Path, you can stop worrying about it watching you sleep and start having fun with some of Path’s fun features. One of the best features of Path is the variety of filters available while posting photos and videos. This instagram-like quality never fails to beautify your updates, and it is convenient not to have to use a third party application to add effects to your photos and videos. You can share your photos, videos, and other updates using Path to Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, or your private Path network.
Another one of the best parts of Path is the icons to choose from when “smiling” at someone’s “moment.” Just as you would “like” someone’s status or picture on Facebook, Path gives you moods to choose from including a smiley face, wink face, heart and more. I’ve always felt like Facebook’s “like” feature didn’t explain enough, so Path has definitely worked out this limitation.
