Research done by security bodies across the globe have confirmed that modern mobile apps are too weak to keep records and important data safe. The security researchers have finally unearthed flaws in thousands of available mobile applications. The flaws have been termed as a threat to user’s personal information that includes passwords and codes. In other words, such applications are completely vulnerable to hackers and other people with ill motives.
The percentage of applications that are vulnerable to hacking is way too high as compared to the safe ones. According to the recently done study by German researchers, it came out clearly that 56 million items are prone to insecurity due to faulty mobile apps. Such items include games, social platforms, banking applications among others. The revelation that there is such a big threat posed to mobile apps came as a great surprise to users. It is even feared that people may no longer trust upcoming mobile ups simply because their security is at a very strong threat.
In every category of mobile apps, one was confirmed to be vulnerable to hacking and general insecurity. This is according to researchers from the Darmstadt University of Technology. The researchers went ahead to confirm that the number of records that will be affected in the near future will be in terms of billions.
Actually, another different and independent researcher from Colombia found the same results are those found by the university researchers. The fact that different researchers reached the same results is an indication that there is indeed a big flaw in modern mobile apps.
The fault regarding flaw in mobile apps has been directed to developers particularly those who write and eventually sell the applications. The manner in which the applications are currently being developed is also a major contributor to the deteriorating insecurity among users. For the last couple of years, demand on the tech field has been rising tremendously, and that has in return led to haste in developing apps.
Surprisingly, the vulnerable apps include those from leading tech companies across the globe. Apple and Google have been mentioned as some of the companies developing vulnerable apps. When approached, Google declined to answer queries regarding the allegation of producing vulnerable apps. Apple, on the other hand, failed to respond completely. It is speculated that the silence in the two mentioned companies is indeed a confirmation that their apps are vulnerable.
