The original Infinity Blade just went free all this week as part of a special Black Friday promotion. The game, which was first released in 2010 by developer Epic Games, is a groundbreaking entry into fighting brawler games, taking full advantage of the iOS platforms’ visuals and graphics platform. The game is available on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
In the single-player game, you play a knight in a gorgeous 3D castle, battling through epic sword battles and enemies in order to defeat the game’s final boss, the God-King. The UI and controls are surprisingly fluid and intuitive for a fighting game on a mobile phone screen. To fight, you simply swipe the screen to control the sword. Depending on which direction you swipe, you can also parry your enemy’s attacks. Additional buttons on the bottom of the screen let you dodge or shield incoming blows. Characters also possess two special abilities with longer cooldowns, which can heal you, or stun and damage your opponent.
There is added complexity through the leveling, weapons and stat system. As you get stronger and gain more experience, players have choices between different equipment and where to divide their base stats. Because of the number of upgrades and choices in rings, helmets, shields, and armor, the game offers substantial replay value and gives you something to look forward to with each new level. The game also offers a multiplayer mode, which lets you go head-to-head with friends in an online arena.
On its release, the game retailed for $5.99 and reached over $1.6 million in just four days. This is your chance to get this highly-rated fighting game for free! If you haven’t picked it up yet, what are you waiting for?
