HopStop, or how I learned to stop worrying and love my phone

Last week I was walking to the subway and it started to rain. I madly dashed the last three blocks, to arrive panting and sweaty only to find out that my subway had been delayed. Needless to say I was not thrilled, and I'm sure everyone living and relying on public transportation has had a similar experience. I live in New York, so having up to the minute information about the public transportation system is a necessity for my commute. Being able to check the MTA information on planned service delays and schedules is great, but it's a system you have to become familiar with. I run into problems when I travel, because I feel lost and confused trying to locate the pertinent travel information. Have the same problems? Fear no more, HopStop is here for us. It is a fantastic source of aggregated public transportation information for cities across the country, giving service maps, a station locater, schedules and directions. No longer do you need to search the web for what you think you heard someone call their subway system. You can get all this info on the go, because HopStop comes in all mobile flavors (even windows phone), as well as having an easy to use web portal. Their directions take into account planned service changes and schedules so you know it's always the best route. The best part is that it integrates all of the cities that it covers into one interface, where you can quickly and easily change your location. And the best part: It not only covers subways, but ferries, trains, taxis, pretty much anything that you can hop in and ride somewhere. Now if they could only whip up something to manage the rest of my life.
