Dots answers and tips for this challenging, minimalistic dot-connecting game. This game, available for iOS and Android, is made by Playdots, Inc and despite having no levels, is addictive! The point of the game is to connect as many similar colored dots as possible in grid formation. Keep reading for tips and tricks for this iOS and Android game, Dots! Dots is a very simple but engaging game. You're job is to connect the dots, that's it! You'll be presented with a 6x6 grid of dots of multiple colors (purple, green, yellow, red and orange) and you want to connect as many similarly colored dots as possible (a minimum of two). You can connect dots horizontally or vertically (no diagonals). There are two modes of the game: timed mode (where you have 1 minute to get the highest score) and moves mode (where you have 30 moves to get the highest score) For every dot you connect, you "collect" it. Dots can be used as currency to buy up boosters. The game offers three: time stops (5 for 1,000 dots, stops the clock for 5 seconds), shrinkers (5 for 500 dots, shrinks a dot of your choosing off the board) and expanders (5 for 5,000 which removes all of one color). Time Stops and Expanders can only be used once per round, shrinkers can be used as many times as you want. And if you own an android or iOS device with a big screen, you're already in luck. It's definitely a boost! This game is all about self-competition, you're awarded trophies for earning certain amounts of dots and for beating your high score. And don't get discouraged if you get a low first score with Dots, the highest score of all time is only 1012.

1. Form Squares
The secret to a high score on dots? Form squares! It seems a little counter-intuitive but given the shape of the board and how you want to maximize moves, squares are the way to go. Also, when you make a square of dots, it will clear any other dots of that color, maximizing your future ability to make squares as you'll be concentrating the number of colors.
| Making a square, clearing purple | Making a square, clearing yellow |
2. Scope Out Your Board
Dots is a timed game that's about set-up. In order to do your best, you'll need a bit of luck and patience. Instead of playing out every game, take a second to look over your board. Consider the following:
- Are there clusters of concentrated color?
- Is one color overrepresented?
- Are there squares ready to go?
3. Look For the Set-Ups
You won't always get squares right off the bat but don't use that as a reason to restart your game. There are three "near square" moves you should keep in mind: the puppy, the hamburger and the step ladder. Each set-up is one move away from being a square.
| With the step ladder, take out the blue dots below preventing you from making the square. | With the hamburger, swipe away the purple row in your way. | With the puppy, if you use the booster the shrinker, you will be able to remove the infringing green dot. |
4. Keep Calm
A timer can make you hasty and careless. You're more worried about how there are only 23 seconds left than about the two hamburgers already set up on your screen. Remember to stay calm when you're playing, be willing to take a second to look over your whole board and scope out moves. You are your own greatest enemy!
