Adventure Time is a fantasy-adventure cartoon created by Pendleton Ward that airs on Cartoon Network. It began airing in 2010 and has released several seasons and Adventure Time video games. Its most recent game, Card Wars, is an iOS game based on the episode of Adventure Time in season 4, also called “Card Wars.” The app lets you play as Finn, Jake, or a number of other characters to go on quests and battle it out from Jake and Finn’s treehouse all the way to the Ice Kingdom. The Card Wars gameplay is very similar to the game in the show. It is a collectible strategy card game like Magic: The Gathering in which you are given a starter deck of cards you use to summon creatures, like the Wandering Bald Man. You start by playing land cards to set the arena, play monsters that can be played on that land type, use those monsters to attack your opponent, and use FLOOP abilities and supporting cards to increase your power. The very first level in Card Wars teaches you the basic rules of play, but the game can get very intricate as more cards are introduced and more strategies are possible. The more you play, the more special cards you’ll earn and the harder your opponents will get. To keep it all straight, we’ve collected the best Adventure Time Card Wars guides, cheats, tips, and walkthroughs to help you create the ultimate deck and make it all the way to the Ice Kingdom.

Game Basics

Set the Board First, you’ll need to place your landscapes. You only have four choices and four places to put them, and you don’t need to worry much about the strategy right now. Just swipe them up until your half of the board is full of corn and swamp! Spin the Food! This just decides who goes first. Remember, you’re Jake (the dog), and your opponent is Finn (the human). Summon your Creatures When it’s your turn, place some monsters on the board. You can see the attack and defense as well as the FLOOP ability for each monster, so put your best monsters on the field! How to Beat Adventure Time Card Wars Want to be a Cool Guy and not a Dweeb? You and your opponent have a health bar at the top, and it’s your goal to reduce your opponent’s health to 0. You can do this by defeating any monsters and attacking your opponent’s empty land. Any attack where there is no opposing monster to defend will reduce your opponent’s health!

Defending and Attacking

When it’s time to do battle or defend, you’ll get a spin wheel. If you went first, Finn will get to attack first, otherwise, you will. The green area is a safe, large area that will guarantee a hit or defense. If you can manage to stop the spinner in the brighter green area, you’ll get a critical hit or a counter, but this part is dangerously close to the red zone, where you get nothing. Always aim for the large green zone, but if you want to go for the bonus, try to stop the spinner before it gets to the bright green zone so that it will land right on it. Defending is much more difficult than attacking since you have much less green area to work with. When defending, it’s safest to aim for the large green area. That way, you can at least avoid getting damaged at all. If you do hit the brighter area, you’ll do a counter attack. If you really have trouble with the spin wheel you can turn it off in the settings on the main screen, but you probably don’t want to do this. Without the spin wheel, all attacks are performed with no chance of defense or counter. Since players are usually better at defending and countering than the computer is, it works out better if you keep the spin wheel on and defend yourself as much as possible.

Special Abilities

Floop Abilities Floop abilities are special abilities each of your creatures has. You activate them by spending a certain number of magic points. Unless you’re summoning creatures, you should be using your magic points to activate your best flop abilities. They can give you extra attack power, lower your opponent’s defenses, or one of many other special benefits. Hero Abilities In addition to the ability each of your creatures has, your hero (Jake, to start with) a unique ability. These can be activated after the countdown goes to zero. Then, just tap to activate. These are extremely helpful and easy to forget about, so make sure to keep track of the timer and use your ability at the most opportune moment! Jake’s ability will improve the attack power of all your creatures on corn fields. When you unlock other characters to use, you’ll get different special abilities and can choose characters with the best ability.

Adventure Time Card Wars Hints

Cards and Experience Bonuses When you beat opponents and complete quests, you can earn unlockable cards and level up your hero. Leveling your hero means that you get more health during matches and you can hold more cards in your deck. Remember that once you earn a new card, you still have to go into your deck manager and add it to your deck. If you’re low on space, take your weakest cards out of the deck. Watch out for hearts. Remember that you have limited hearts to play with. They regenerate one every fifteen minutes, so you can always wait for them to regenerate when they run out, or you can use gems to regenerate them instantly. Beating Quests Each level has three quests you can complete. You only have to beat the opponent (the first quest) to proceed to the next level, but beating all of the quests will help you get more cards, characters, and bonuses. Here is a typical set of quests:

  • 1st star: Beat your opponent to win a star!
  • 2nd star: Beat the opponent in 5 turns or less.
  • 3rd star: Beat the opponent using only corn cards.

Unlocking Characters The farther you get in the game, the more characters you can unlock. Beat as many levels and quests as you can, and soon you’ll be able to play as Finn, Beemo, and others!
